The Heloise book says to use white vinegar or salt and lemon juice to kill the mildew. Then it says to blot the stain with lukewarm dishwashing liquid. Allow to dry, then wash with vinegar and water 1/2 & 1/2. It says that if this all fails, then apply some dry-cleaning solvent and blot. Wash as usual and allow to dry. THEN seal with the water proofing spray so you don't have to go through this trouble again!
