We don't whine, we respond to your posts with facts and logic and lately you have just been drive by posting and then slinking off into the grass waiting for another blind squirrel to find an acorn so you can pop your head up and post again. Gratefully given all the bad news that isn't very often.

I am truly glad for the improved job numbers but am surprised that the census bureau has only hired 66,000 workers in April since from their own website they plan to hire 800,000 workers in April and May. If they are going to meet that goal they will need to hire 736,000 employees this month which I can't imagine will be feasible. I noticed that they did not tell us how many of the new jobs were in government. By my math it is around 100,000 of the 290,000 new jobs. So more than 1/3rd of the job creation in April was in government, and most of that temporary jobs. Look for another big bump in May if the census bureau meets their hiring goals.

So the useful job growth in April is closer to 190,000 because every job created in government has to be created using money taken from the private sector to pay for it (i.e., it doesn't add to the GDP because what is given must first be taken away). Despite that, I will take 190,000 new private sector jobs over where we have been over the last few years although too many people are only employed on a temporary basis.

Another trend that we need to reverse is the number of people that are only marginally attached to the labor force and are not included in the unemployment numbers is at 2.4 million versus 2.1 million this time last year and a total of 15.3 million people are still out of work. What that means is 300,000 more people in April have given up on the job market versus the same time last year. Add these 2.4 million folks in and unemployment is well over 10%. If you add the underemployed the number in April is actually the second worse since the Depression and getting worse, not better. By the way, a recent study indicated that the census bureau hiring is expected to temporarily reduce the unemployment level from 0.4% to 0.5% when they are fully staffed. Again, these are only temporary jobs that will go away eventually. Also, the number of people out of work for more than 6 months is at an all-time record high.

You see Archie, unlike Dems we don't view good news for America as bad news. But what has changed is all the negative news associated with this labor report is no longer the lead story like it was under Bush. The government media dutifully reports the nugget of good news in all the bad news once again explaining why they are going the way of the dinosaur.
