I have been watching this unfold and I'm really surprised by some of the people who are taking exception to it. I'm wondering what some of you think about it.
My sister lived in AZ for 8 years, still has a house there, 20 miles from the Mexican border. Obviously, she has some pretty strong feelings about the illegals --- everything from turning the wilderness into their own personal garbage dump when they are sneaking across, to the burdens they place on the system out there.
I'm also intersted because the county I lived in VA did something similar. Obviously there was a great deal of angst among the Hispanics, some of the police were against it because they felt it smacked of profiling, and in the end, they had to soft pedal because they were told by the Immigration people that they just didn't have the resources to deal with the increase in workload, when the illegals were turned over.
Personally, I'm ready to see this country take a hard line. It's not any different than any other crime, in fact, it is worse because it costs us more. I don't think amnesty for illegals is the answer either. A work permit program? Maybe, but I'm not convinced they can control it, given that they can't seem to control the student visa thing.
So what do you think?
