I was working around the garage last night and had a thought..... Not sure exactly how you plan to work everything around the island but a couple of years ago we started using kids jumping balls for bumpers around the boat and they are really inexpensive - maybe 15$ for the smallest one. they could be anchored to the bottom however and easy to see to tie to.  Go to jumpingballs.com. I would contribute to buying one or two for the cause if that will help.
