This is a comment on a news article:
Wetumpka Ala. – Alabama Marine Police officers have arrested John Edward Norris, 45, of Birmingham, for his role in a boating accident that occurred July 1, 2011, at 8:50 p.m. on Lake Martin.

On Monday August 22, Norris turned himself in at the Elmore County Jail to face the following charges: Boating Under the Influence, Assault in the First Degree, Assault in the Third Degree, Operating a Vessel Without Proper Navigation Lights, Violating the Rules of the Road and Failing to Have An Emergency Shut-Off Switch. Norris was operating a 2005 Chaparral runabout when it collided with a 2002 Harris Kayot pontoon boat, injuring him and four other people.

Norris faces the Assault in the First Degree charge, a Class B felony, for injuries sustained by a 14-year-old Madison boy, who was a passenger in Norris’ boat. The Assault in the Third Degree charge stems from the injuries sustained by the operator of the second vessel involved in the accident, a 25-year-old Birmingham woman. Bond amounts for the charges total $38,000.

The Alabama Department of Conservation and Natural Resources (ADCNR) promotes wise stewardship, management and enjoyment of Alabama’s natural resources through five divisions: Marine Police, Marine Resources, State Lands, State Parks, and Wildlife and Freshwater Fisheries.
