Lowe's, Home Depot and Wal-Mart are three horsemen in the cavalry putting my kids through college. I feel bad for the small shop owner's being run out by them, but their is still market space for the little guy as well if they aren't competing on the big-guys turf and rules.

Perfect case in point - Bluff Park Hardware in suburb of Birmingham. Best old-timey hardware store ever, and thriving!
