-I kind of like the idea od a presidenttalking directly to kids, with perhapss one addition. In teh first paragraph about preparing for Obama's address, I would have added a section about emphasizing to kids that it is "we the people" that elect the president, ..and although it's important to understand what teh president wants us to do (the topics in teh second set of learniig points), it is more important that the kids know that the president is president because "we the people" put him there and that it's his/her job to do teh things 'we the people" want done.
-I'm assuming that the contents of teh talk to the kids will be about kids working hard in school, that education and hard work are the keys to success, and that in America everyone can aspire to be anything they want to be, even president, and that he is an example of that promise.
-One of the good things about heving Obama as president is to inspire some of our most disadvantaged kids in urban and rural areas to see the possibilities for a good life, if they believe in teh effects of a good educaton and hard work. For teh America of tomorrow to be strong, we can't continue to have ever increasing percentages of thee population being ignorant and illiterate.
-However,on another note, what I don't like are some of teh video clips I see of inner-city black students singing songs to and about Obama. To me that smacks a little too much of a cult of personality, --the kind of stuff you see in socialist countries.
-My bottomline: I look forward to the 8 Sep talk to the kids, hope that it inspires them about the benefits of a good eucation and hard work, and that kids, especially kids disadvantaged by parents and neighborhoods that don't value education, develop a personal desire to succeed inspite of all the impediments that their societies put in their paths.
