Good point - it lives on hard surfaces much longer than you would think.  I recommend you carry disinfecting wipes with you to use after touching public things.  Even a can of Lysol will help- spray it on your hands.  I know these things are hard to find now, but look around your house - you may have some laying aroud.  You can also wear plastic gloves, but make sure you throw them out after you use them.  Or stop somewhere as soon as you can and wash your hands.  Buttons - like on the ATM machines, elevators, in the grocery store when you pay with a card - germs galore.  

Still the best way to keep from contracting the virus is to stay home.  And wash your hands.  When you go out in public, lots of stores are now offering santizer to clean your cart.
