President Obama's Ignoble Prize

By: Lowell Ponte

We should blame ourselves, not the Euro-socialists who picked him, for President Barack Obama's Nobel Peace Prize, awarded despite his utter lack of any positive accomplishments.

American voters elected Mr. Obama as our chief executive — the most powerful job in the world — despite his total lack of executive experience.

American voters elected Mr. Obama as our military's commander-in-chief, despite his complete lack of military command experience or decisiveness.

So why criticize the Nobel committee for honoring Mr. Obama, whose only real Peace Prize qualification is that we elected him president?

America elected Obama on the basis of his rhetorical promises, not any proven track record. We bet America's future on hope instead of experience.

We are now getting what we deserve for this insanely reckless, irresponsible choice as, to quote the Rev. Jeremiah Wright, “America's chickens are coming home to roost.”

Like ancient Rome, we have replaced our republic with a Julius Caesar, a megalomaniac dictator Caligula, a Nero who not only fiddles while America burns but also fuels the cremation of our Constitution, Bill of Rights, free market system, and individual liberties in a thousand different ways.

The Nobel Peace Prize Committee merely gave Mr. Obama a gold medal and less than $2 million in tax-free cash, while spurning more than 200 other worthier nominees who made genuine contributions to world peace.

By doing this, the Norwegian committee further debased a prize already cheapened by being given to terrorist Yasser Arafat, to the man most responsible for war, death and terror in the Middle East Jimmy Carter, and to disreputable egomaniac Al Gore, among other unworthies.

The Peace Prize has become an award often given by leftists to leftists to promote international socialism.

Committee chairman and Obama-booster Thorbjorn Jagland, former left-wing Labourite prime minister of Norway, was described last August by a former Soviet spy as a politician “friendly” to the Soviet Union during the 1970s and ’80s.

During the brief glimpse the West got into Soviet archives, Jagland — who had access to NATO military secrets — was discovered to have been a “confidential contact” of the KGB, the Soviet committee for state security.

Mr. Jagland, with his special secret relationship to the Soviet Marxist dictatorship, was eager to provide money and prestige to his ideological comrade Barack Obama.

And America's sycophantic liberal media never reported these and other facts well known in Europe, e.g., Jagland's lust for government expropriation of private property, when quoting this man who steered the Nobel Peace Prize to President Obama.

Jagland's rationalization is that Mr. Obama deserves this prize for “extraordinary efforts to strengthen international diplomacy and cooperation between peoples,” adding that the committee attached “special importance to Obama's vision and work for a world without nuclear weapons.”

Obama's nomination had to have been filed no later than the Nobel deadline of Feb. 1, 2009, only 12 days after he became president. Obama's selection was announced less than 10 months after his inauguration.

This announcement was greeted by gasps of astonishment from the press gallery and by echoes of the question “For What?” from pundits around the world and across the political spectrum.

Libertarian cartoonist Michael Ramirez showed the Nobel Peace Prize worn not by President Obama but by his teleprompter to remind us that talk is cheap.

Why did Mr. Obama really win this honor?

One likely answer is clear from the view of European-born billionaire financier George Soros, who spent tens of millions of dollars to help elect Obama.

Soros has said that the greatest threat to world peace is the United States, which must be torn down from its ruling roost as the world's sole true superpower to the same level of lesser nations.

From this Euro-centric viewpoint, Obama IS creating world peace by destroying the United States military, by repeatedly condemning his own nation and damaging its prestige and influence in the eyes and ears of the world, by bankrupting our capitalist economy, and by sinking the dollar to kill it as the planet's dominant currency.

Veteran political analyst Dick Morris concludes that Europeans see Mr. Obama as a way to restore European control and ownership over colonies that broke free in 1776.

Backing Obama, says Morris, is nothing less than “Europe's attempt to reverse the American Revolution.”

President Obama is either a knave or a fool. Whichever he is, Obama like Jagland follows in the footsteps of Norway's Vidkun Quisling, who sold out his country to a European socialist ruler, in Quisling's case to Adolf Hitler.

Rome somehow survived Julius Caesar, Caligula, and Nero. The United States as a sweet land of liberty will probably not survive Emperor Barack Hussein Obama.

But as in Aesop's fable of the frozen serpent that fatally bit its rescuer, we knew what Mr. Obama was when America elected him.

As legendary CBS newsman Edward R. Murrow said in 1954 of anti-Communist Sen. Joseph McCarthy: “The actions of the junior senator from Wisconsin have caused alarm and dismay . . . and whose fault is that? Not really his; he didn’t create this situation of fear; he merely exploited it, and rather successfully.

“Cassius was right: 'The fault, dear Brutus, is not in our stars, but in ourselves.'”

President Obama could redeem himself in this situation. He could, as New York Times columnist Tom Friedman suggests, use his Nobel acceptance speech in December to praise America's military as the world's greatest peacemakers.

President Obama also now has the option to pre-emptively destroy Iran's nuclear weapon facilities. In the phrase of my old mentor Dr. William Van Cleave, former strategic weapons adviser to America's SALT Delegation, this could be called “Assertive Disarmament.”

Other liberal presidents might be deterred from such pre-emptive action by their hope of someday winning the Nobel Peace Prize. President Obama, having already won this prize, is no longer constrained by it from striking Iran to prevent future nuclear terrorism.
