They probably don't look at the stars and aren't interested in the two meteor shows that come each year, the Leonids and the Perseids. So it's never crossed their minds that they may be interfering with someone else's view. Ignorance is bliss.

This slough has many houses that keep their outdoor lights burning throughout the night. I've got eighteen of them on the house but don't burn mine. Early last year someone decided to put a bright street light high atop a hill two miles across the water. Can't see a star to the north at night because of the light pollution it causes. I won't resort to the pellet gun so I just accept the reality that I'll have to leave my home to get a decent view of the heavens.
