For those of you of Scottish ancestry, you are probably familiar with the wonderful Scottish delicacy - Haggis. For those of you less fortunate here is your opportunity to learn something about it and to actually hunt the magnificant beast.
Thanks to the magic of the Internet, everyone is able to go haggis hunting. The season opened November 30 (St Andrew's Day) and will end January 25 (Burns' Night). The Web site below will provide all the details. Be sure and click on the tab labeled "Haggisclopedia" if you are unfamiliar with the haggis and its tradition.
Haggis hunting is best done on a slow, rainy day when there is absolutely nothing else to do and while enjoying one of the recipes referenced below!
Some of you, in previous posts, have expressed a fondness for "spirits", be sure and go to Part 11: Drinks, located on the Haggisclopedia page for excellent ideas. Below is just a sample, traditional, Scottish recipe:
Bloody haggis Ingredients Large bottle of malt whisky A glass A very very small jug of water Tomato juice Worcester sauce Stick of celery Bottle of vodka
Method Place generous amount of whisky in glass. Wave water quickly over whisky. Reserve tomato juice for the next time you cook linguine. Place celery in bunnet. Dab Worcester sauce behind ears. You are now ready for a night on the town. Put vodka somewhere that local teenagers will be unable to find it. Drink whisky. Cook haggis the following morning and serve on toast with brown sauce as an excellent hangover cure.
There is a 5 hour (EST), 6 hour(CST) time difference between the US and Scotland, but the Haggis is spotted at all hours. In fact today, it has been spotted riding in a sleigh with Santa Claus.
