My point is that your post was a steaming pile of manure. "It was just loud enough to hear it pur (sic) like a kitten. The operator of this boat must have been thinking of others that own property on this lake." That's about as logical as saying "It was just loud enough to hear it pur (sic) like a kitten. The owner must floss between meals."
And WSMS is right; it might have been "purring" to those who could hear it in the distance, but to those who were considerably closer, it might have rattled the windows and made dogs howl and babies cry. For you to claim that it wasn't loud anywhere because it wasn't loud where you were shows an incredible lack of knowledge of physics, or maybe just a lack of knowledge... period.
As for your asinine comment that I would prefer no recreational enjoyment on the lake at all-- get real. "Recreational enjoyment" is a rather broad definition; I can think of dozens, if not hundreds, of "recreational" activities that don't involve loud noises, and even more that don't involve loud noises caused by big engines. If you can't enjoy the lake without the benefit of a 500 horsepower engine, then you don't deserve to be here; this lake is much more than a playground for speed-freak gearheads, and if you would take a moment to slow down and enjoy ALL that it has to offer, instead of that one little fraction, then you would learn to appreciate it a little more. And in doing so, you might come to realize why so many of us are fighting to keep it as good as it can be. Not as good as it ever was; those days are gone. But as good as it can still be, that's still worth fighting for.
And no, I'm not in favor of banning all boats, and no matter how many times you tell that lie, it won't become true. Boating is not only my main mode of travel, it is my favorite. I just happen to believe that it is more enjoyable-- not to mention more environmentally sound-- when done at a slower speed, with minimal noise and minimal wake. And-- and this is important, you might want to write it down-- not only is it more enjoyable to ME to boat that way, but it's more enjoyable to OTHERS when I boat that way. It's like using tobacco; why do some people hate smokers, but tolerate those who dip? It's because when you dip, they don't have to drink your spit, but when you smoke, they have to breathe your smoke. Loud boats are INTRUSIVE, just like smoking. I don't want to breathe a smoker's noxious gases, and I don't want to hear your obnoxious boat.
