I am ok with higher property taxes, IF you include stocks and bonds as "property".   I used to argue with a professor who wanted higher property taxes.  I told him it was unfair to tax my Dad's cattle farm on the PRINCIPAL = property, and on the INCOME = cattle, grain, etc sold, IF you were not taxing a person on their PRINCIPAL = stock, and on the INCOME = dividend.  Stock principal, as I understand it, is only taxed on sales transaction, whereas my dad's land was taxed just being idle.
