"“I have been a gun owner for many years. Can you explain under the 2nd Amendmen (sic) how Texas can allow an 18 year old to purchase an AR15 but he could not buy a pistol until age 21?”'
"I wonder about such Texas law (Please cite your source)."
"If you are old enough get married (defend your home), join the military (die for your country) – AND are not a felon or mentally unstable – why should the government violate your 2nd Amendment rights?"
Actually, I learned something in responding to your source question.
Texas follows the Federal Law. The Texas law of age 18 for Long Guns and age 21 for Hand Guns is not unique. There are only 7 states that restrict Long Guns to age 21. All states restrict Handguns to 21.
Florida is one of the seven states. It was signed into law by one of the most Conservative US Senators when he was Governor Of Florida...Rick Scott. Long Guns and Handguns restricted to age 21.
“Did you know that EVERY adult (non-criminal) male in Switzerland has a government supplied rifle and ammo? Ever wonder why Switzerland has never been invaded since declaring neutrality?”
FACT: Military issued firearms may be purchased from the government after service, and then the gun is converted to a non-assault weapon (meaning, a fully automatic converted into a semiautomatic weapon). Restrictions can be placed on both the firearm and its ammunition.
BOTTOMLINE: While getting the exact numbers on gun ownership is a bit tricky, the idea that the Swiss males are required to own firearms and the idea that all Swiss males own firearms is a myth.
