I had all the same questions a year ago and went with the Kayak. It's my favorite lake toy. Nothing like paddling around late in the afternoon when the crazys have gone home and there is shade around the bank. All ages love them. 

I did not get a 2 seater because I was told it is harder to paddle with one person in it. So get 2 one seaters. The canoe is much heavier and takes more skill. I bought mine on sale at a national retailer but they are also available around the lake.
