"More affluent areas" are soon to be a memory, and the intent of the current administration. I think that the older doctors (who have lived in a world where their profession and work was esteemed) are going to bow out of insurance as the government compensation ( and private insurance follows the lead of Medicare) drops - (see Council Roc Doc) I think the best and brightest of future generations will not choose to devote the time needed to pursue careers in medicine, as the time investment, and resultant lifestyle/compensation will not be worth the effort - especially when they could be community organizers, government employees, or permanent wards of the government with minimal effort. But those are the occupations that are of most benefit to the new world. It may not be important to keep people healthy for as long, either, as the very young (<16,) and the very old, (>50) will not be economically important to maintain - they will be more of a drain on society and so their obligation to do the "right thing" is to smile and suffer (and hopefully die.) Still seems you resent a doctor that would dare to ask you to pay for their service though. Do you think healthcare is a Right?
