Would a single EMP burst effectively damage electronics from coast to coast?  Or would it have a more limited range of impact?   Just finished Ted Koppel's book, Lights Out, a pretty good read on the subject of vulnerability of the electrical grid.    In it, he outlines the vulnerabilities, but they are regional... not universal to the entire country.
