According to Misty Edmondson - AU Large Animal Teaching Hospital:

“The main thing the goats will need is a mineral source – more specifically a loose trace mineral salt,” Edmondson said. “If they only have a regular salt lick out there that will not be ideal. There’s only so much nutrition that the brush will be able to provide them.”
Falkner said, “After we dropped the first four nannies off on the south side of the island, we went around to the west side and put out feed in the worn down areas where the previous goats used to occupy the majority of the time. We came back by an hour later and they were all in the spot we put the feed out, as well as laying under the shed. As soon as they get more comfortable on the island and associate the sound of boats and people’s voices with feeding, you will be able to feed them out of your hand.”

****Edmondson offered the following tip for area boaters: “Don’t try to feed them people food or too much grain. It will only cause bladder stones and digestion problems for the goats. If every boater that went by tried to feed them, the goats could run into problems quickly."
