Maybe the people aren't but the politicians like Merkle are all for it and for good reason.  They see the demographics and realize that Europe is contracepting itself out of existence and will no longer be able to afford their generous socialist cradle to grave programs let alone pay for their elderly.  They need an influx of cheap labor to build their BMW's and shore up the tax base.  Unfortunately their best available source is Muslim countries in northern Africa.  If you want to see Europe before it is under Sharia law you better go soon.  What they could not accomplish militarily they will by immigration and high birth rates.
