I'm not sure why anyone would consider it a "lesser" form of fishing. Seems like that is a pretty popular way to fish for salmon in fresh water as well as for all sorts of salt water species.
Trolling is one way to cover a lot of water and show the bait to large numbers of fish. Do you suppose fly fishermen consider throwing plastic baits a "lesser" form of fishing?
