I suspect that Biden is attempting to create a niche for himself for those liberals that feel Democrats have moved too far to teh left.  I think he is trying to say that he is a centralist that leans liberal.  Let's face it, Biden is who he is and most people have made up their minds about him from all his years in Congress and then as the Vice President.  I don't think anyone will mistake him for an intellectual or seriuous thinker.  But he will offer an alternative to Bernie's socialist ideas.
