Problems are not just starting in Egypt.  There has a been a lot of concern for a long time about the increase in fundamental Islam extremists gaining control in Egypt.    I'm not sure I would say that Pakistan is "ripe for takeover".  The extremists in the Northern provences in Pakistan have been there for decades. Just because Pakistan's priorities are not the US's priorities doesn't mean that it is about to be taken over by extremists.  Afghanistan has never been assimilated with a strong central government.  So in that sense, nothing has changed there either.  The question in Afghanistan is will the Taliban take Afghanistan back over when we leave?  It's quite possible.

I would submit to you that for all the money and lives we've spent since 9/11, the world is no safer.  They don't love us, they will never love us, and now that the extremists have seen that they can create uncertainity in our lives, we won't be any safer.  The question is how do we live with the knowlege that we are vulnerable?
