Over the last couple of years several polls ahve been taken which have between 43% and 54% of Republicans believing President Obama is a Muslim. A poll in May of this year showed 67% of Trump supporters believe Obama is a Muslim (59% do not believe he was born in the USA).
Now, Barack Obama is definitely not what the average white southern protestant church goer thinks of when they describe a ''good Christian'' but he calls himself a Christian and has had what appears to be a very good marriage and only one at that. Donald Trump is even less in that southern Christian tradition,...he has had 3 marriages, admits to extramarital hanky panky, uses gutter language in public, says he cannot think of anything for which he ever needed to ask God's forgivness, says stupid stuff about the Bible when he should simply say he is not that familiar with scripture, claims he is antiabortion when until a couple of years ago he made it clear that he considered abortion a basic right, and still openly supports gay rights. Nevertheless he has the overwhelming backing of evangelicals. Now I can see them hating Hillary but have a hard time understanding their rather enthusiastic backing for Trump.
Using the above as background, please will one of you evangelicals out there explain yourselves...why do you think Obama is a Muslim worthy of your disdain and why do you think Trump is a Christian worthy of your support (by that I do not mean your vote, that is something else completely, but your enthusiastic and loud verbal backing)?
