You may be correct that the immigration issue was a consideration, but not in the way you might think.  From what I have read, a large proportion of UK immigrants are educated and easily employed.  They largely come from Eastern Europe.  They have contributed mightily to the UK economy and their presense and employment has allowed businesses to keep labor costs in check because of the ready accessibility to an educated workforce.  Now if Mitt Romney had stated that those who suffer from low wages must look at themselves first, you and I know he would have been scewered.  That statement does not fit the Dem platform, otherwise, the unequal pay that Dems say exist between men and women for the same work can be blamed on women for not having the same job skillset and intangibles that exist with men.  Glad you have seen the light GF!  Plenty of room in our big tent......
