Bowing to the Emperor of Japan is a totally different thing than bowing to the King of Saudi. Bowing is considered the polite greeting in Japan and has nothing to do with a sign subservience. It would be rude in the extreme not to bow.
I guess none of you have ever done business with the Japanese.
