I watched 60 Minutes tonight too.

I agree with you that the story about Wilmington was quite touching. Especially since so many of them were participating in retraining opportunities, with probably no hope of getting a job that would pay half of what they had been making at DHL. But, it made me wonder this -- what were their state and local officials doing to attract more business into the area by offering tax breaks and other incentives? Their mayor seems liked a real nice man, but to say that the city is living on hope for the future? Does he think that hope falls out of the sky?

While I agree with you that I would rather see the govenrment give $30K a year to families who need it rather than spend it on climate change or continuing to keep Israel and Egypt from fighting; but that is not a long term solution. States need to do what they can to attract businesses. I think Alabama is a prime example of what can be done.

With regard to the Greek Orthodox church in Istanbul, it appears that it's not so much what happens to a Christian church in a Muslim country, but what happens when there is a dwindling Christian population. It's not just that the Turkish government doesn't support them, it's that the Turkish government is supporting the beliefs of the majority of the people.
What was interesting was the document that had been signed by handprint of Mohammed that said that there should be peace among religions. Just goes to show that it is not the religion of Islam that is really the problem, but rather the way Islam is being interpretated and manipulated by the clerics. In a lot of ways, it's what has been done to Christianity as well, down through the ages.
