What has changed, other than the deficiet?

Social security and Medicare have been going broke for years now. I think for the last 10 years, they've been telling us not to count on Social Security because the government took our money and spent it, so they've got nothing but a filing cabinet of IOUs. Why, I even remember GWB talking about it.

And the Medicare I think has been underfunded since the day it was started.

The postal service was going broke when it was a government entity, so then they privatized it, and it's still going broke. I read an article the other day about how lavishly the post office is entertaining, they are giving $200 watches away as retirement gifts, and have just now put an $800,000 cap on property that they will buy back to move one of their employees.
They are a wasteful and poorly managed entity, but it still costs less for daily mail in this country than any other.

And as far as the Federal government taking over your health care -- well, they will continue managing Medicare, but the so called "public option" has been taken off the table for this round. I did have a giggle the other day when some Congressional person observed that they were "building a starter home, not a mansion...". Heck of a "starter home" for $871B.
So the government won't be taking over health care -- we'll continue to be at the mercy of the insurance companies, who will likely raise their rates, because BC/BS of Alabama says they hate, hate, hate the new provisions. And we know what happens when those folks hate something.

So cheer up Alahusker, it's all good.
