An old boss once said "hit 'em with logic and reason and they will fall for it every time".

Not sure if it is generational or just a common human failing, but an awful lot of the time it is very difficult to get folks to realize and address the real problem rather than chasing all the tangential bovine shinola. Absolutely amazing, some of the things people chase while missing the point altogether. Run into it all the time - from newbies straight out of college to old f@rts my age who should have figured it out by now. No telling how many times I have had to stop meetings and ask a simple question something like: What are we trying to do? What problem are we trying to solve?

Specialists have their place - and I value their input immensely - but we need clear thinkers to lead and organize the efforts of those specialists. Occasionally you will find a specialist with great analytical, reasoning, and leadership skills. If you find one of those grab him or her and do whatever to keep them. They will end up being the next vice president of the company - or higher.

I never met TJ, and suspect even Hound hasn't either. (Sorry Hound, but I believe I have a few inhales and exhales over you). But it was his ability to see through the BS and reduce things to concepts that stand the test of time that is amazing. He was one smart cookie.
