If the cooling system circulates water through small passages it would seem that the 0il - which appears to be thicker than water - could clog those passages. I saw a video of oil that washed up on a Florida beach and it had formed a gooey tar ball. It would seem that sucking something like that into the engine block couldn't be good for the cooling system.
