I know the administration is trying to make a point that we are not at war with Islam, just the radicals, but the truth is that the US doesn't have a history rich with Muslims.

I have know a lot of Muslims over the years -- I was a Middle Eastern desk officer for a few years -- and nothing in my dealings with them have ever convinced me that they trust us or like us -- we are just a means to an end. I have traveled in the Middle East, and even in the relative security of being part of a US delegation, it was pretty evident that women have a lesser status in their culture. (I actually have some pretty funny stories it). And yes, I have worn the Abaya and the head scarf, and made sure my arms and legs were completely covered.

Having said that, I have known Muslims who I liked very much on a personal level. My gastroenterologist in VA was a Muslim and I trusted him completely. Even my surgeon was a Muslim and I certainly trusted him. I worked with some that I dealt with on a very regular basis and I enjoyed knowing them too.
