I'm sorry to say that certain areas of AZ have been unsafe for Americans for some time. I've mentioned before that my sister had been living in Sierra Vista for the last 10 years. She and her husband are hikers, and for some years she was telling me about the dangers. The Border Patrol used to park in her driveway to monitor activity in their area (she lived outside the town in a rural area). They have been hiking with a weapon for qutite a few years now. It's not something that gets much play, until very recently, on the national scene, but it's been there.
