I think that his speech lacked passion. However, I see no reason to think that if McCain was in office, he would have been any better equipped to deal with this situation. At then end of the day, no matter how lame or how good the speeches, this thing has still happened and everyone is scrambling to figure out what to do. Remember, he is/was not a "domestic" guy.
As far as Obama not meeting with the CEO of BP -- realistically, what do we expect to come out of such a meeting? Presumably, BP is doing everything they know how to do to fix the situation. As far as I'm concerned, it would just be a photo op -- symbolic, but no real purpose. Rather like the Congressional hearings with the Oil Executives. What do we really expect to come out of that? Waste of time.
I'm not defending Obama, and I'm not advocating the dissolution of BP.
