First of all, he's a Brit. He's doing this to appear to be open and sincerely concerned-- it's all about apprearances. Don't forget he concerned about "the little people". He also "wants his life back". So I wouldn't waste too much sympathy on him.

Just what leverage do you think the WH has to force BP to put up the money? No, BP is agreeing to do this because they are in a Public relations nightmare, and the money they have agreed to put up is a drop in the proverbial bucket to them. It is nothing compared to the lawsuits that they will face. Likely, they will either arrange to be "bought out" or they will file bankruptsy and never pay out half of that. It's for show. They have leagues of lawyers and public relations consultants figuring out how they can come out of this with minimal damage. Unfortunately, high priced PR and high priced lawyers can't help what is being done to our coastline.

And then there is that idiot from Texas "apologizing" to the BP guy? It was too much even for his own party, and he ended up having to do the Washington "huma-huma".

Give me a break.
