That can be done. If you have an alarm system, a relay can be wired to the alarm so that when you leave home and set the alarm, it will turn off the water. And if your alarm system can be remotely activated/de-activated bu phone, the system can be turned on or off (if plants needed watering).
The down side of this arrangement is that if you lose power, you will have no water. A battery back-up would work until the battery ran down.
I would also recommend that the solenoid valve be placed ABOVE GROUND. It will require maintenence.
