Mack is correct, I did have an issue with their early 40" smokehouse.  The elements were burning out after a very short time and they were not replaceable.  This made it a very expensive and not very efficient boat anchor.  I was upset and was looking for another brand.  After some discussion with Masterbuilt they replaced mine with a new style smoker that has a replaceable element.  I went through two of the early units and now I'm working  on the third, a late style.  So far it has done everything I have asked of it.

As to the smoker itself, I see no reason to have a glass door or a light for that matter.  After a couple of smoking sessions both are translucent at best.  I have not used the meat probe either.  I trust my instant read and want to peek in every now and then just to check how things are.  It easily accommodates two butts on a rack, or 2 chickens, two racks of baby backs, or a whole brisket.

Some may consider using a digital, electric smoker cheating, but what I am looking for is results.  This smoker produces great BBQ.  If you don't want to believe me, ask the 350 who ate brisket last year at a wedding reception, or the 60 who demolished the chicken, butts, and brisket this weekend on our fall color cruise at Center Hill. I'm not a competition cooker, and probably never will be. Making people happy with the food I cook is all the reward I need.  This smoker will allow you to do that.
