Richest counties 7/10 around D.C.

I suspect that they are talking about Potomac MD (lots of McMansions), McLean, VA (ditto), Fairfax VA, Montgomery County MD, maybe a couple of others (I'm trying to think of the name of the county in the Dulles high technology corrider, but I'm drawing a blank). But, keep in mind that there are a lot of highly educated people concentrated there too. (One of the reasons that some of the public schools there are excellent).
Even with the devaluation of home prices, homes (even a moderate home) are still very expensive, property taxes are very high, child care costs are astronomical. It's a very odd place in a lot of ways.
But, you know, for the most part, "money" isn't really the issue there like it is in a lot a metro areas. It's really more about power, and other than the lobbyists (a much different breed), displays of wealth are not admired. In fact, just the opposite.
So people don't spend money as obviously as they do in other places. Maybe just more people save and invest their money and that makes more millionaires.
