If mixing your own sand and paint doesn't sound appealing, you can get non-skid paint from Overtons. It is expensive but it works and it has rubber particles in it as opposed to sand (more comfortable on the feet).

It usually lasts about 2-3 years before requiring a repaint and it keeps the missus happy with the "look".

Check with pool supply and industrial paint suppliers as well.
