For the record, Camden NJ is a city across the river from Philadelphia. It has over the past few years, been the number 1 ranked city with 75,000 population in crime. It' dropped to number 2 this past year behind St Louis. It has typically been ranked as the poorest or just above the poorest city in the country. The state took over the schools and the city government retruning it back to the mayor and council this past year. They receive money from the state of New Jersey to balance their budget. The firing of the police will probably result, as it has in the past, the state sending in the NJ State Police to assist in patroling the city.
Rutgers has a campus there with an undergrad and law school. A 4 year medical campus is under construction. As one would expect, there is a high drop out rate in the high schools.
Years ago, the city was home to RCA Camden where they made records. I am familiar with the area as my wife and I lived in South Jersey for awhile.
Camden has all the ills associated with a city of abandoned homes, high single mom population, white flight to the suburbs,
poverty, and high crime. It is a third world city in the US.
