If people can't handle the rivalry better than this, then the rivalry needs to stop.

I came very close to ending a friendship with someone who went to Auburn this year over her celebrating and getting downright ugly with happiness every time Alabama lost. I didn't care so much about the game, but I find it hard to tolerate someone taking so much pleasure in a poor outcome for a rival team. I certainly didn't feel angry at Auburn for having a winning season. This year, they outplayed everyone.
How could every resident of Alabama not feel a sense of pride that Auburn had such a good year this year? They represented their school and our state admirably. Why can't it be just good fun? What happened to the attitude about our rivals that says "we'll get them next year"? Isn't that supposed to be the fun?

And it's entirely likely that the man that poisoned the trees never attended either school.

And it deeply saddens me to think anyone could take pleasure out of the killing of a living tree. Those trees are as much a part of the history of the city of Auburn as they are a symbol of Auburn's joy at winning.
