I agree with you in principle, but in this particular case, they are not demanding a national change or a state change that affects the mass culture of the US. They VOTED to make the change. They didn't sue to make the change, they didn't create a strike to make the change, they voted. And voting is a integral part of democracy. I have a feeling that accomodations are made for religion much more often you might think.
