I appreciate all the answers, I think I can get to it, I have a deck boat and the "deck" I'm referring to is the platform behind my I/O cover.  The ladder top is attached to it and through the engine compartment I think I can get to the underside relatively easily.

I'll take a look at what, if anything, is there now and likely go with something myself.

Does it matter the shape or size of the plate on the underside of the deck?  Obviously bigger spreads the stress better but does the shape matter?  Rectangle vs. square vs. something else?
