Because many of us "Boomers" have been blind to what has been going on in DC for 50 years.
It started at least as early as LBJ and his congress when he first borrowed from the Social Security trust pool. And it has gathered momentum from then.
"Spend" and then find a way to pay for it later. That culture/mind set has grown out of control with both Congress and US Citizens. Both Citizens and the US Government owe way more than we can pay back.
Congress is going to solve that problem by going further into debt, even to the point of appropriating money that I have saved in a 401K account over 30 years, and cutting benefits of SS that I paid into over 30 years??
That time span covers political party changes over 40 years, and the mentality stayed the same. SPEND IT.
Lord, Help my children be more attentive to what their Elected Officials are really doing. I did not do that, and I am going to pay a very heavy price for it. My children are going to pay much more.
And a "Budget Compromise" is not going to change the nature of the real problem.
