The fact is we only control the House. Left wing Dems still control the Senate and White House. We also need to recognize that even in the House we have a ton of GOP members that were in Congress during the profligate years of spending under W so they are not fiscal conservatives at their core.

The question is do we cut off our noses to spite our faces. I think what we are going to hear is this was the best deal we could get given the current makeup of our government. Dems are hoping that this compromise will dismay the Tea Party or they will sit out 2012 because they didn't get everything they wanted. This should motivate them to be even more energetic in 2012 so we can get rid of the Messiah and demote Dems to minority status in the Senate.

The bigger question is what will happen to the bill during reconciliation. That's when whatever good news is in there could evaporate under the guise of people not any longer paying attention. To sum up my feelings, it is a small step in the right direction, is woefully inadequate but is probably the best we can get given the current makeup of Congress and the WH.
