Can't rely on statistics, because statistics are manipulated. I suspect more people are out of work than the statistics show, because some people have just given up. I have one friend who has been out of work for over 6 months. She continues to look, has gone on interviews, but the market is so competitive, she hasn't been successful so far. Right now, she is living on her savings.
Heaven knows how many jobs are on the fence right now.

You know, back in the 80's there were a lot of articles about how our economy was changing from manufacturing to a service economy. I also remember reading articles that the future was going to be "independent" consultants who would hire out for projects, but were basically self employed.
