I agree that it seems like it's a constant marathon of Chopped and Cupcake Wars, and that guy with the white hair.
So many things I know about cooking came from the old days of NPT. I think Christopher Kimble has a pretty good show still on NPT. I highly recommend you check out Cooks Illustrated magazine. Not only excellent recipes, but explains the science and techniques behind it. No advertising either, so when they review something, they tell it like it is.

I also like Fine Cooking.
