You and I are in agreement that the emphasis on education starts in the home. Parents need to be involved with the education of their children, and have high expectations of success in school. I think that parents have to put the emphasis on learning, and I think schools have to create an environment for success. I'm actually in favor of a longer school day, a longer school year, and a more disciplined approach to education.

I have no personal experience with teacher's unions. But I think it is a smart idea for teachers to have a one year at a time contract. I would think it would keep teachers on their toes, realizing that if they don't measure up they will not have a job.
