First of all, anything involved with the CIA and data collection is immediately denied. These are usually black operations and not discussed nor acknowledged.

I believe that Obama is "requesting" our drone back for a reason. I don't think he seriously believes that they will return it, but it is another data point in making our case against Iran for future actions.

I obviously don't have any inside information. But, I suspect that suspect that the US in continuing to build consensus in the world community. You have to remember that not everyone regards Iran as the "evil empire" that we do. Don't forget -- it was our last President who identified them as part of the "axis of evil" and some countries will see Iran's actions as legitimate defense actions.
Remember what a lunatic government we are dealing with in Iran. I don't think we are interested in seeing them take some sort of radical action (nuking Israel, turning nukes over to terrorists, etc,) over something like our drone.

I personally think he is handling it just fine. We don't need to engage with Iran on a hostile basis, encourage them to do something radical, or start a war there and end up with another Iraqi situation.
