This is probably something similar to what is described above. I have a simple Blackberry with verizon service. I purchase a download called Tether-Berry. You can load it to one Blackberry and to as many laptops as desired. Hook the two together with a USB cord, start Tether on Blackberry and laptop, and, if you have decent phone service in the area, you will have decent internet connection.
