The Republican party is trying to enforce morality with regislation. If an adult, or two or three or more are engaged in acts that are viewed as being "wrong", but do not impact anyone else - why should we balk? When I was young, the blue laws had "non-essential" businesses closed, and today the "conservatives" still want to restrict WHEN I can buy alcohol. Please explain WHY there should be restrictions on what I do in my own home - again - if I am an adult and my actions do not impact anyone who does not want to participate. I also feel that the Government should NOT decide which drugs are legal and which are not - it should be the responsibility of employers to set standards - if you use alcohol or other drugs that negatively impact your job performance, you are fired. Seatbelt laws, helmet laws - same thing - as far as banning "risky" behavior to limit cost exposure to the public - here we go again - where does it stop?
I know that I am old fashioned as far as this is concerned, but how about we return to the days of personal responsibility - if you want a TV, a cell phone, or food that is not commodity; and are not disabled (1960's determination not today's) - then get a job. If you do something wrong - we need to hold YOU responsible, not try to find out WHY you did it.
I understand that the Republican Party has to pander to more of the entitlement community than they perhaps would like to buy the votes; but just admit it, don't speak about small Government while wearing that credit card out.
