It turns out that the Obama administration requested the removal of the exclusion of American citizens from the detention act in later versions of the bill. As quoted from Sen. Carl Levin (D) “The language which precluded the application of Section 1031 to American citizens was in the bill that we originally approved…and the administration asked us to remove the language which says that U.S. citizens and lawful residents would not be subject to this section,” said Levin, Chairman of the Armed Services Committee.

So apparently the Teleprompter in Chief requested the removal according to the Democrat head of the committee. It still applies only to those that assist al Queda but it is obviously wrong. Sadly, it apparently enjoys bipartisan support and it bothers me that Republicans are allowing this to happen in order to get the bill through the Senate.
